Privacy policy

Effective date: 2 October 2026 · Applies to TrainsCoding for iPad and Mac

TrainsCoding is a coding playground for children. We built it so that a child can use it safely without any grown-up having to think about data. This policy explains what that means in practice. “We” and “us” mean the developer of TrainsCoding.

What we do not collect

The app does not collect or ask for any personal information. In particular, it does not:

On the App Store, TrainsCoding is labelled “Data Not Collected”.

What stays on your device

To work, the app keeps a small amount of information on the device where it is installed. This information never leaves the device through the app, and we never receive it.

WhatWhyWhere
Your projectsSo the characters and trains you build are there next time. A project contains only what you made: character names, costumes, positions and programs, including any text typed into speech bubbles. The app’s private storage on the device
PreferencesMusic on/off, sound effects on/off, the layout choice on iPad, and the position of the stage/code divider. The app’s private settings on the device

Deleting a project in the app removes it. Deleting the app removes all of its projects and preferences.

If you use your device’s own backup (for example iCloud Backup, or a backup to a computer), the app’s files may be included in that backup, in the same way as other apps’ files. Those backups are handled by Apple and by your own settings, not by us. TrainsCoding does not use iCloud syncing.

Device sensors

On iPad, programs can react when the device is tilted left or right. To do this, the app reads the device’s motion sensor only while a program is running. The readings are used immediately to start the program’s tilt events and are then discarded. They are never stored or sent anywhere. The app does not use the camera, microphone or location.

Apple and the App Store

You download TrainsCoding from Apple’s App Store. Apple may collect information related to your purchase, download and use of the App Store, as described in Apple’s privacy policy. We do not control that.

If you have chosen, in your device’s settings, to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and basic performance data about TrainsCoding. These reports do not identify you, and we use them only to fix problems. You can turn this off at any time in your device’s privacy settings.

Children’s privacy

TrainsCoding is made for children aged about 5 to 10. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either. No parental consent is needed for data collection, because no data collection takes place. This applies under the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws.

We encourage parents and teachers to explore the app together with children. Children may type short texts into speech bubbles. We recommend they don’t type personal details there, even though the text stays only on the device.

Your rights

Data-protection laws such as the GDPR give you the right to access, correct, delete or move personal data that a company holds about you. Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to hand over or delete. All of the app’s data is on your device and under your control, and you can remove it at any time by deleting projects or the app.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of TrainsCoding changes how it handles information, for example if optional iCloud syncing is added, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the effective date above. We will never start collecting personal information from children.
